What’s Up? Flipbook
When big feelings hit, finding the right words can be tough – that’s where the What’s Up? Flipbook comes in!
Created by Sandhya Menon, an AuDHDer Developmental Psychologist, this locally produced tool from Melbourne/Naarm helps kids identify what they’re finding tricky and express their needs to those around them. The flipbook features vibrant illustrations by Kushla Ross and is thoughtfully designed with children’s needs in mind.
How it works:
-
What’s Up? pages assist children in describing difficult situations (e.g., “It’s too noisy” or “This is too hard”).
-
I Need pages suggest possible solutions (e.g., “More time to think,” “A quiet space away,” or “Someone to sit with me quietly”).
-
Kids can mix and match pages or create their own using the reusable sheets at the back.
This visual aid reduces mental effort, making it easier for kids to communicate, advocate for themselves, and solve problems – whether at home, in the classroom, or on the go. Its compact size allows it to fit perfectly on a desk or be easily carried in a bag, making it an invaluable tool for children, parents, and educators alike!
